WAYYYYYYY back in the day circa “the TJ years” and in fact beginning even in middle school (shout outs to Dominic Moon and Tae-hee from Ms. Ohtani’s english class) i was heavy into the Korean Pop or K-Pop -- even though I don’t speak the language.  I attribute this first fascination to my then korean girlfriend and it has since blossomed into an undying love for the peninsular neighbor to my motherland, Korea (north n south, cuz one day they will be ONE).  So let’s begin…

the first group I ever remember hearing was 1TYM, this, thanks to the above mentioned gookies in my english class.  i remember hearing it and thinking it was ridiculous/hilarious what have you but also that the beat was catchy and that overall it was pretty dope.

Fly to the Sky -- Seubgwan

Fly to the Sky, comprised of Brian and Hwan-hee, are without a doubt, hands down, whatever, my favorite K-Pop duo/group.  I used to bump their shit all the time and the above track is one of my favorites of theirs.  Brian is from New Jersey and moved to Korea to sing and well, become a huge famous K-Pop star.  I’ve always dreamt that one day he’d return to the US and become the first major asian-american pop star.

and finally we come to the dearest and nearest to my heart, BoA (Beat of an Angel).  She is bar none the most famous female K-Pop face across all of Asia and the World in fact.  She began singin and dancin from a young age and has been molded into a force to be reckoned with on the stage.  She has dominated Korea, Japan, China, studying and speaking English, Japanese, Korean and Mandarin.  She is now currently trying to make a wave in the US market, lets hope it works!  But for now, some BoA gems…

by college time I had fallen out of favor with K-Pop and moved onto other genres, this video, of DBSK ( a typical boy group ) and BoA, was one of the last major things I got into.  Here they’re singing Mariah Carey & Boyz II to Men’s amazing song “One Sweet Day”. This is also when BoA came out with a new look and I think was at her hottest…

I actually got to see BoA live in concert in 2007 in Yokohama, Japan when I went to the M-Flo cosmicolor show.  I had no idea she was gonna be a guest, EVEN though one of their major hits was with her from their “M-Flo loves” series, this track “Love Bug”:
